Studio Christchurch

Studio Christchurch was a collaborative research and design platform for architecture and related disciplines. Conceived by Uwe Rieger and Camia Young, Studio Christchurch was a response to the severe seismic events in 2010 and 2011. Established on the vision of an exemplary rebuild, Studio Christchurch linked tertiary institutions with local industries, the profession, the community and governmental bodies.

The project operated in three areas: the collection and publication of useful data, the testing of propositions through design, and the communication of concepts through exhibitions, often in the form large-scale urban installations designed and fabricated by students.

Over one thousand students participated in more than sixty events connected to
Studio Christchurch. The partner institutions were the Architecture Department at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, Architecture Department at Unitec, School of Architecture at the Victoria University of Wellington, School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland, School of Landscape Architecture at Lincoln University, Department for Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury and the Geography Department at the University Canterbury.
